Boredom Is The Enemy: 16 MORE’s to Maximize Your Time

By: Scott Ginsberg

When was the last time you were bored?

Today?
Yesterday?
Last week?
Last year?

And when you were bored, what did you do?

Eat?
Watch TV?
Doodle on a piece of paper?
Spend an hour on www.boredatwork.com?

I haven't been bored since college. And you know what? I'm damn proud of that. It's consistently enabled me to accomplish more stuff, meet more cool people and have more fun.

And here's what amazes me: friends and fellow professionals often ask, 'Wow! Books, speeches, article, podcasts, blogs, traveling and marketing - where did you find the time to do all that stuff?'

Well, um, last time I checked, all of us had the same amount of time in each day, right?

Maybe it's simply because I wasn't bored.

But don't take it from me. Take it from these guys:

Grasp your opportunities, no matter how poor your health; nothing is worse for your health than boredom. ~Mignon McLaughlin

The war between being and nothingness is the underlying illness of the twentieth century. Boredom slays more of existence than war. ~Norman Mailer

I am never bored anywhere: being bored is an insult to oneself. ~Jules Renard

Boredom is like a pitiless zooming in on the epidermis of time. Every instant is dilated and magnified like the pores of the face. ~Charlotte Whitton

You get the point: boredom is the enemy. Which is kind of funny considering that the world is filled with people who complain, 'Gosh, there's never enough time,' and people who complain 'Gosh, I'm always so bored??'

Therefore, consider these MORE's for eliminating boredom:

1) MORE reading
2) MORE writing
3) MORE blogging
4) MORE podcasting
5) MORE exercising
6) MORE brainstorming
7) MORE networking events
8) MORE reviewing your goals
9) MORE audio learning systems
10) MORE research on the Internet
11) MORE enhancing your creativity
12) MORE lunches with hot prospects
13) MORE reviewing old underlined books
14) MORE calling your clients to check up
15) MORE asking clients why they work with you
16) MORE calling your friends you haven't talked to in months

Think of it this way: if you're bored, maybe that means you're a boring person.

LET ME ASK YA THIS...
When was the last time you were bored?

Common Questions & Objections: Self-righteousness [Part I]

"I have broken the Ten Commandments, but I do good things for people."

Key Scripture: A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresses not in judgment. ~Proverbs 16:10

Many people do similar things. They may steal from their employer or cheat on their taxes, then give to a charity or spend Thanksgiving helping at a soup kitchen. They think they are balancing the scales: they have done bad, and now they are doing good. However, the Bible reveals that the motive of guilty sinners is one of guilt (see Hebrews 9:14). They are attempting to bribe the Judge of the Universe. The Judge in this case will not be corrupted. He must punish all sinners. Good works cannot earn mercy; it comes purely by the grace of God. He will dismiss our iniquity only on the grounds of our faith in Jesus.

TJ's Personal Note:

There comes a time when taking a risk is a good/healthy thing; however, this is not one of them. Look at it this way: Let's say that the Bible is wrong, and all Christians (past, present, & future) are not redeemed by the Savior. Then on the unfortunate day you die, nothing will happen. You won't even have the opportunity to say "I told you so!" But WHAT IF the Bible is correct, and all -- and only -- Christians are redeemed by the Savior. Then you will not just spend eternity separated from the presence of God, but as the Bible puts it, forever burning/tormented in Hell, where the fire NEVER quenches & the worm NEVER dies!!

Out of love we, Christians, are only asking that you consider the WHAT IF...before your time runs out. If you are saying, "Well, I don't want to make a decision out of fear...that doesn't seem genuine; or it seems like a cop-out." The Bible says that it is the fear of the Lord that men depart from evil/sin! Therefore, let that fear work in your favor! If you were on an airplane and you knew you had to jump, isn't it the fear of the law of gravity that entices you to put on a parachute?! Well, the same thing spiritually, let the fear of the Law of God and His justified wrath entice you to put on His parachute...the Lord & Savior Jesus the Christ!! Repent once and for all for your sins -- and name them if you can -- and then place your faith & trust SOLELY in the Savior for your salvation! Do it today, because tomorrow isn't promised to anyone. Thank you for reading and God Bless.

Common Questions & Objections: Evolution/Creation [Part I]

"Doesn't the Big Bang theory disprove the Genesis account of creation?"

Key Scripture: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night shows knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them has he set a tabernacle for the sun. ~Psalm 19:1-4

Try to think of any explosion that has produced order. Does a terrorist bomb create harmony? Big bangs cause chaos. How could a Big Bang produce a rose, apple trees, fish, sunsets, the seasons, hummingbirds, polar bears—thousands of birds and animals, each with its own eyes, nose, and mouth? A child can see that there is "grand design" in creation.

Try this interesting experiment: Empty your garage of every piece of metal, wood, paint, rubber and plastic. Make sure there is nothing there. Nothing. Then wait for ten years and see if a Mercedes evolves. Try it. If it doesn't appear, leave it for 20 years. If that doesn't work, try it for 100 years. Then try leaving it for 10,000 years.

Here's what will produce the necessary blind faith to make the evolutionary process believable: leave it for 250 million years.

"New scientific revelations about supernovas, black holes, quarks, and the big bang even suggest to some scientists that there is a 'grand design' in the universe." (U.S. News & World Report, March 31, 1997)

"The universe suddenly exploded into being…The big bang bears an uncanny resemblance to the Genesis command." (Jim Holt, science writer, Wall Street Journal)

Common Questions & Objections: Faith [Part I]

"If God gives me some 'sign,' then I will believe."

Key Scripture: But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah.  ~Matthew 12:39

The unsaved often want a "sign" from God. This is in spite of the testimony of creation, their conscience, the Bible, and the Christian. The cross is the only thing that can truly convince a sinner of the reality of who Jesus is. Once they understand that the holes in His hands and His feet are there because of their own sins, they will fall at His feet and cry, "My Lord and my God!"

Common Questions & Objections: Excuses [Part I]

"When you're dead, you're dead."

Key Scripture: But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.  ~Psalm 49:15

What if you are wrong? What if God, Jesus, the prophets, the Jews, and Christians are right and you are wrong? If there is no afterlife, no Judgment Day, no heaven, and no hell, then God is unjust and each of the above is guilty of being a false witness. It means that Almighty God couldn't care less about the fact that a man rapes a woman, then cuts her throat and is never brought to justice. If you are right, and there is no ultimate justice, you won't even have the joy of saying, "I told you so." However, if you are wrong, you will lose your soul and end up eternally damned. You are playing Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun.
